Life is Good

Matthew walked into the New York City apartment he shared with his girlfriend, Chris to see her sprawled on the couch, still dressed. He noticed there was a plate of the dinner she had made waiting for him on the counter. Matt smiled as he walked over to the couch quietly. It was about eleven pm, he had gotten stuck working late at the office, a frequent occurrence lately. She was fast asleep. Matt slipped off his shoes and tossed his suit jacket onto a nearby chair. He leaned down and kissed her forehead softly.

"Hmm you're home..." She stirred.

"Yeah, baby I'm home." He smiled and whispered softly, "I'm sorry I had to work late again."

"It's okay." Chris yawned. "I'll sit with you while you eat."

"No, go to bed." He said sweetly.

Christina shook her head and sat up, "No, it's okay I'll have a cup of coffee. I've got Ph. D stuff to work on."

"Decaf coffee and come to bed with me. It's too late for that stuff." Matthew smiled, he knew she was exhausted. She put an insane amount of pressure on herself when it came to school and work.

Chris smiled slightly as she popped the plate of food she saved for him into the microwave, "Okay. You're off tomorrow right?"

"Sure am." A huge grin graced his face. She put the plate down in front of him. He ate a few bites then pulled her onto his lap, "You're too good to me."

They were happy, so happy. Chris couldn't remember any other time in her life she had been this happy. Matt was perfect, five years older than her with a good job. He had moved from England to the United States three years prior to pursue his career. They were friends for a few years but when he moved is when they realized how they really felt about each other. Now, they had been dating for two years. For once in her life everything was as it should be.

Cierra frowned as she walked toward's the elevator. Her briefcase was hanging by her side. In her hand was a file folder on Justin Robinett. He was a muscian from Texas who had mostly gotten his fame from YouTube. That was, until she decided to sign him.

"What's that?" Cierra's secretary asked as she exited the elevator. Cierra looked at the girl coldly.

"Call this guy. Set up a meeting." She walked into her office and smiled. She was only 23 but she was damned glad her father had deemed her fit to operate his music company.

Matt rolled over to see Chris already up on her laptop with papers all around her. "Sorry, did I wake you?" She said softly.

Matt shook his head, "No but come back in here with me." He groaned tiredly.

She smiled at him, "I guess this could wait." Chris put her laptop on the floor and pushed her papers aside and laid back next to Matthew.

Cierra looked down at her cell. She had a text. Meeting is at 1. You had an opening.

He smiled and held her close, "I love you."

She smiled and logged onto her computer. She answered a few emails.

"I love you too." Christina smiled.

"And to think I used to screen your new boyfriends." Matthew laughed. He had always treated Chris a bit like a little sister then suddenly he realized she was not so little. He got progressively more jealous everytime he saw her with someone, "I got SO jealous."

"I never knew you liked me!" She laughed.

Then saw one from her best friend, Christina. It was from yesterday.

Hey chica,
I don't know why I'm e-mailing instead of texting. I'm trying to stay up and wait for Matthew to get home from work.
Let's all have dinner at Marque tomorrow night at 9. Bring a date

He smiled, "Looking back, I don't know how you couldn't tell."

Sounds good. Idk about the date though. Haha. You know me, all work, no time for boys. :'( Crying on the inside. lol.

Cierra's secretary chose this moment to come into the office, "Your morning meeting is cancelled. Luckily, your ten AM appointment is already here." Cierra nodded and motioned for her to bring him/her in.

"Well, you Mr. Thompson were quite the ladies man." Chris teased.

"Was not!" He laughed.

"Was too!" Chris said.

Right after that appointment left, Cierra thought for a moment. "Call Mr. Robinett. See if he's available now. I'd love to get out of here early." She called to her secretary.

Emilie, the secretary, did as told.

"He said give him twenty minutes." She informed Cierra, who nodded and closed the office door.

He started tickling her.

Twenty Minutes later:

There was a knock on the office door.

"Come in." Cierra said.

Tickling led to making love. Afterwards he held her for a few more moments, "You ever think about marriage...?" Matt had just turned 28 and it was on his mind.

"That's a vague question..." Chris said.

She smiled as he walked in "I'm Cierra." She said simply.

"Justin." He replied cheerfully as he looked her over. Cierra wore a t-shirt that had the company name on it and a skirt. She slid the documents across the desk.

'Just sign and we're done. You'll get the amount you asked for."

He nodded, signed and frowned, "So uhm...when do we start recording?"

Cierra shrugged, "Soon? Just enjoy the city until I call."

He frowned, "Any pointers? I just moved here and I know nothing about it."

She shrugged again, "I suppose you could go to dinner with me tonight."

"Just answer." He laughed.

"Really? Because I don't know anyone and...." He trailed off.

She smiled slightly, "I'm having dinner with my best friend and her boyfriend. I'll introduce you."

Cierra felt bad for the guy. Big new city, new friends.

"Sure. I do. I'm a little young I guess but..."

"But I'm 28." Matthew pointed out.

"Exactly. I don't know, Matthew. I thought it was something I'd want later in life but now I don't really mind when it happens." She smiled, "Why...do YOU think about marriage?"

"Where do you live?" She asked him. He raised an eyebrow.

"In a hotel, at the moment." He responded. Cierra laughed at him. Suddenly she stopped.

"Oh...you're not joking. Well.....my father owns lots of property. I know of at least one that has nice apartments. I'll hook you up. C'mon. Let's go." She pulled him along as she made several cars. they went to the garage and got into her car.

Matt smiled, "Yes."

"Thanks for all this." Justin said as he got in.

Chris just smiled. She didn't know what to say but she definitely liked that that was on his mind. "Let's shower and get some breakfast."

Cierra smiled, "Justin, you're MY artist now. I'll take care of you."

He nodded and climbed out of the bed.

He smiled, "Good to know. So maybe tell me a little about these friends? So I don't sit at dinner silently." He laughed.

She looked at his body. "You're sexy baby." She smiled.

She then proceeded to tell him a few things.

He smiled slightly, "Nothing on you, my love."

"They sound cool." He said.

Chris and Matthew took a quick shower together and got dressed. They left their lower east side apartment. It was fall in NYC, Chris's favorite season. Matthew took her hand and smiled as they walked towards their favorite brunch stop.

She nodded as she pulled into her designated parking spot at the aparment building. She knew her father owned it because she lived in it.

They ordered the same thing as every morning.

"Don't know if I can afford this building." He said as they walked in.

Chris ate a potato off Matt's plate, "So we're having dinner with Cierra tonight!"

Cierra laughed, "Don't worry about it. You can stay here until you start making plenty of money of that album."

Justin stared at her, "Uhm...is this too good to be true?"

Matt smiled. He liked Cierra the best of all of her friends, "Should I bring one of my friends for her?"

"Like I said, I take care of my artists." She smiled, "Welcome to the big time."

"Hmm..I'll text her later and see." Chris smiled.

"All work and no time for love is no good!" Matthew laughed, "I used to work way too much!"

"Used to?" Chris teased.

He smiled, "I hope I like everything that comes from this."

Matt laughed, "I know! I'm sorry."

"You better." Cierra teased.

"It'll take some getting used to." He said as they walked into an apartment.

Chris snuggled into his side and took a sip of coffee. "It's okay. I can't say much..."

"Because you're up to your head in Ph D research?" He laughed.

"Exactly!" She smiled.

"Oh yes, I'm a bitch in the office but I'm pretty AWESOME out of it." Cierra said as they walked around. It was a fully furnished apartment.

"It'll all be worth it in the end." They smiled at each other.

"This is great!" He smiled.

"You two are too cute." The adorably gay hispter waiter said as he brought the check.
