The Boys Of Fall

"Oh good." Morgan said.

"If you were captain of your old cheer team I'm sure you'll have no problem pulling off these try outs." Roxanne smiled genuinely. "Josh you going tonight? To McNulty's party?"

"Yup. My band is playing for a bit." He nodded.

Roxy smiled. She loved watching him play. Morgan stood up and said good-bye to them. She had to go see about try-outs.

"Come on, delinquent." He said, "You're going to the rest of classes."

Roxanne laughed, "Fine!"

After school...

Morgan took a deep breath and walked into try outs.

"Gimme a lift home?" Roxanne asked as she approached the drivers side of Josh's car, he was about to pull out.

A few of the football players were in the bleachers. They liked to scope out the new cheerleaders and dance team members.

Morgan did exceptionally well and the coach practically guaranteed her a spot as captain of the dance team. Mark jumped up as he saw her exiting.

He caught up with her outside of the gym, "Morgan! Let me give you a ride."

"What makes you think I don't have a car?" Morgan asked in annoyance.

Mark laughed, "I saw you ride with your dad today. My dad and step-mom live across the street from you."

He grinned and nodded.

"Oh." Morgan said, "Sure then."

"Thanks you're the best." She kissed his cheek and hopped in.

She was a little surprised by Mark's attention. It was different from the usual guy that wanted in her pants. She just couldn't figure out exactly what was different.

"Want a ride to the party?" He asked her as they drove.

He pulled in front of her house, "So really I'll pick you up at nine." He said.

Roxanne nodded, "You're not drinking? It's friday." She smiled.

Josh smiled slightly, "I'll probably end up leaving my car there. We'll walk home together too?"

"Sure." She smiled.

She thought about it for a moment, "Okay. I'll see you at 9 sharp."

He grinned at her.

Later that evening

Josh and Roxanne arrived in front of the house at the same time as Mark and Morgan.

"Hey guys.." Josh nodded.

"Hey Morgan!" She said cheerily. Then turning to Mark, she glared icily, "Mark."

"Roxanne." He said nastily. Morgan and Josh shared a stare. Without a word, they made an agreement to keep these two separate.

"I want a drink..." Roxanne muttered as she pulled Josh with him.

Morgan did the same with Mark.

Roxanne took a shot and handed one to Josh.

"Thanks." He mumbled and took it. She went to hand him another but he shook his head, "After I play..no more before though."

Mark smiled and took a big gulp of his beer. "Thanks for coming."

She rolled her eyes and shrugged.

Morgan smiled, "I didn't come for you. I came to get drunk." She was completely blunt.

Mark laughed, "Well, at least you are honest."

"Slow down killer..." Josh laughed as she took two more shots.

"I'm fine." Roxanne shrugged.

Morgan laughed, "Yes that's one thing I am."

"I don't want to." She replied.

Morgan smiled and finished her first beer. She grabbed a couple of shots.

Josh sipped his beer. "You know we've known each other ten years." He smiled.

"Yep, since we were seven." Roxanne said.

Mark raised an eyebrow, "Bad day?"

Josh smiled, "I can still remember when we met."

She said, "No. Just partying." She laughed at someone walking by. Mark liked this confidence.

"You were such a little shit." Roxanne laughed.

"Was not!" Josh said, "You used to try and beat me up!"

"Correction: I did beat you up! But that's only because you always pulled my hair!" She said.

Mark smirked slightly. "Josh's band plays soon, you like rock music?" He wanted to learn so much more about her.

Josh laughed, "You did NOT beat me up. You tried."

She grinned, "Well of course. I like everything but rap." The two continued talking and sharing details until the band played.

Josh went on and Roxanne watched as she drank. When they were done he came back to her after.

"Awesome job!" She smiled and handed him a shot. Roxanne was already pretty drunk.

"Thanks!" He said and took it.

Josh felt amazing after the adrenaline rush of playing.

Mark realized very quickly that Morgan was too drunk to be at this party. He watched a fellow football player try to get her to go home with him, "Yeah. That would be a negative." Mark snapped as he shoved the football player away. He grabbed Morgan and led her to his truck. He was taking her home.

They had switched normal music back on. Josh and Roxanne had another drink or two.

"It's so loud." She said, "Let's go upstairs where it's quieter. My head is bugging me."

"Alright." Josh smiled and they found an empty bedroom.
