Lost Loves and Baby Dolls

As I watch our son crawl, I cannot help but think of his father. RIP Orlando Bloom.

Jake Gyllenhall sighed as he read the last line of his best friend's blog. (She and Orlando Bloom had been married for five years and had a son together in that time. Jonathan Jacob Bloom. Orlando had been killed in a fire on set before his son was born.) Jake picked up his cell phone and dialed her number.

" BrightonBloom." She answered it calmly and cooly as if she had no idea who it was. Hell, she probably hadn't even looked at the Caller ID.

"Brighton, are you okay? I saw your blog." Jake said it softly. He looked around his room and sighed.

"Of course." She muttered, dropping all pretenses of being fine.

"I'm coming over." Jake said simply.

"No really, Jake I'm fine." Brighton sighed.

"Bright I'm coming by." He was already walking to his car, "Plus I'd love to see my godson."

"I'm fine. My sister is here." Brighton said softly.

"Too late. I'm in the car. See you soon." Jake stopped by Starbucks real quick then arrived at his best friends house carrying a tray of drinks. "Hey B." He called as he walked in the door.

Madyn looked up at him, "Yeah, she's putting the baby to sleep." She rolled her eyes and looked back down at her notebook.

"What the fuck is your problem?" Jake snapped as he glared at her. He set the drinks down and walked toward the couch.

"Possibly you. Just fucking falling over yourself to be there for my fucking sister but never for ME when I needed you." She stood up and walked towards Orlando's old study. Orlando had been her best friend before he had died.

Jake ignored her and walked over to the baby's room, "B?" He whispered. She smiled slightly as she kissed her son's forehead.

"How are you?" Jake asked as he hugged her gently.

Brighton sighed, "I'm okay. Jake, it's been eight months....when does it stop hurting so much?"

Jake took a moment to think. Madyn had been his first big love and he'd lost her. Not in the same way but he'd still lost her, "I don't think it will ever stop completely. It'll just start dimming..."

She put her head on his chest, "I just want it to go away."

Jake nodded, "I understand that. But he was the love of your life, B. It doesn't work like that."

"Let's go outside. What's going on with you and my sister?"

"The usual. She hates me." He muttered.

Brighton laughed, "I seriously doubt that. Anyway though, how is your new movie going?"

"It's good. It's weird not having Orlando around for advice or to run lines with me." He sighed sadly.

Brighton smiled, "I know that you and my sister are working together. But...be nice."

Three weeks later:

Brighton took a deep breath as she walked into the production area for Jake's film. She had brought her son and there to visit her best friend and her sister.

Madyn was staring at her script and chewing on her thumbnail. Jake was staring at her and sketching. Brighton smiled. Although the love of her life (to that point anyway) had passed away, she was happy to see that her sister and best friend were far from over.

The director glanced over and saw Brighton. His eyes widened, he needed to meet this beautiful woman.

Brighton was walking toward her sister when the man reached her.

"Hello, I'm Joaquin." A handsome man intercepted her.

"I'm Brighton." She replied politely.

"I know." He smiled softly, "I've heard a lot about you."

She couldn't help but smile, "Really? Good things I hope."

"Only good things." He smiled.

"B!" Jake interupted.

She smiled and turned towards his voice, "yes?"

"I need your help reading!" He said with a smile. He glanced toward Madyn, shook his head and looked back at her. Brighton couldn't help but notice the longing in his eyes when he looked at Madyn.

"Well, Joaquin, it's nice to meet you. It seems that I am needed."

"I'll see you around." He smiled.

Jake smiled as she walked up to him, "So, I see you met Joaquin."
