Adalynn Adams glared at her uncle, "I refuse. You cannot make me marry that man." Her blonde hair was falling out of the braid she wore and her emerald green dress was slightly wrinkled from being slept in.

Her uncle rolled his eyes and hit her. After she sat on the bed, he said, "You will marry him if you know what's best for you."

Matthew Macfadyen paced the room, only slightly nervous, "She'll be here tonight...We must have everything ready for her." He told one of his maids.

Adalynn looked at her uncle coldly then turned her face away.

"Where is Amelie?" Matthew asked one of the maids.

"I don't know, sir." She answered and left.

"Amelieee!" Matthew called for his friend and maid.

"Shit" Amelie managed to say in between kisses. She and Daniel were in a small little corner upstairs, hidden away. "I must go.."

"No..." Daniel whined kissing her neck, "Stay with me."

"I can't." Amelie started to fix her dress.

Amelie's family had been employed by Matthew's all her life. He and she grew up together. Daniel was Matthew's brother in law, married to his dismal sister, Isabelle. Amelie was in love with the married man and Daniel loved her too very much. No one knew of their secret affair, she knew though Matthew cared for her that he'd throw them both out of the streets if he knew. She couldn't blame him, she felt guilty everyday.

Mary, Adalynn's personal maid, came out from her hiding place, "It's allright darling. I now it displeases you to marry this man but, you could learn to love him. And you would be safe from your uncle."

Adalynn frowned, "Are you coming with me?" Mary nodded, "Fine. Let's pack our things."

"Damn it. Where is she?" He muttered as he strode from the room. His boots tapped against the floor as he began his search. He would entrust Adalynn's care with no one but Amelie.

Daniel sighed and watched her walk away.

Adalynn sighed but nodded and started to fold her clothing.

"Sorry Matthew..." She said as she ran to him and stopped right in front of him. "I was umm checking on the progress of Adalynn's room.

He didn't want to go back to his wife at the moment so he walked outside to the woods. He needed time to think.

Daniel walked silently until he reached the pond.

"How does it look?"

Daniel thought to himself Why was I a selfish young man, who married for money?

"Beautiful." She smiled, "Are you excited?"

He took a seat next to a large tree and sighed.

"You have no idea." Matthew grinned.

"Good good...here let me show you the room." Amelie took his hand and led him to the most beautiful room in the house. "I told you it was beautiful."

"DANIEL!" He heard his wife calling as she approached the lake.

Matthew smiled, "You have exceeded my expectations, dear. I want you to be her personal maid...Unless you wish not to be."

"Damn it all to hell." Daniel muttered before standing, "Yes?"

"That'd be great." Amelie replied, happy to have another friend in the house.

"So Amelie I guess you won't be marrying and leaving me anytime soon. I haven't seen any men sneaking onto my land to see you in at least five months. What have you been up to anyway? I feel as though I haven't spoke to you in ages." Matthew sighed.

"Where have you been all morning?" She asked.

"Here."

"At Matthew's house?" Isabelle asked. She and Daniel lived in a house Matthew had built them on his land.

Amelie smiled, "Not very much...when is Adalynn supposed to be here?"

"I just walking around in the woods over here." Daniel explained further through gritted teeth.

"At noon." Matthew said.

"Matthew, it is noon." Amelie smiled and they made their way downstairs. She sent servants to call for Isabelle and Daniel and everyone else Adalynn was to meet.

Isabelle's jaw clenched, "Where is the little vixen?"

Daniel stared at her in disbelief, "Excuse me?"

"I know you've been sleeping around. I will bring it up with my brother very soon."

Adalynn stepped out of the carriage and was followed by Mary, "Wow. He has quite a bit of money. He's got peacocks."

As the walked to meet Adalynn Daniel spoke, "You don't know what you're talking about. If I were you I'd think twice before making such accusations." He lied smoothly. As they all gathered Amelie noticed the two speaking in harsh low whispers and her heart skipped a beat. She smiled slightly at Matthew in the distance.

"She's breathtaking." Matthew said softly to Amelie.

"Yes. She is." Amelie replied, still nervously glancing at Daniel.

Matthew raised an eyebrow at her, "What is wrong?"

Adalynn didn't smile at Matthew, "Please show me to our room."

Amelie ignored Matthew's question. His eyes widened slightly when Adalynn spoke to him, "Of course." He took her arm and began to lead her off. Isabelle followed her brother, as did most of the others. Amelie and Daniel stayed back away from the crowd a little.

"What was that about?" Amelie whispered.

"She claims she knows I'm having an affair. She doesn't know with whom but she knows." Daniel muttered back.

Adalynn sighed as she followed Matthew. She didn't mean to be so rude but she also didn't want to be here.

"When do we marry?" She asked softly. Matthew looked at her.

"Tomorrow."

"She's just making things up." Amelie muttered. She did realize that yes, she and Daniel were having an affair. But she also knew that Isabelle was a wretched person.

Adalynn sighed and nodded. Matthew looked at her, unsure of what to say or do.

"I'm sorry. Did I offend you?" He asked, sensing the tension.

"I know." Daniel sighed, "But still she's threatening to bring it up to Matthew."

"He'd never believe her." Amelie hoped.

Adalynn glared at him, "Would you like the truth or shall I sugar-coat it?"

"Honesty." Matthew replied, running a hand through his hair.

"I hate you for making me marry you. I don't want to be FORCED to marry anyone. I want love. I don't care if that makes me a stupid, ignorant woman!"

Matthew looked shocked, "I was told that you consented to this marriage."

"Well, you were told wrong. But don't worry. We will be married tomorrow."

Daniel sighed, "He just might though."

Matthew sighed, "I'm sorry you think I'm so horrible."

Amelie sighed, "Daniel, I just want this all to be over. I want to be with you."

Adalynn rolled her eyes, "Please show Mary, my maid, where to find the things to draw me a bath. I'll be in here." She walked into her room and abruptly shut the door. Tomorrow night she would be moving into Matthew's room so she wanted to relish having her own room for now.

Daniel sighed, wanting to take her hand, "I know love...But Matthew will have to grant a divorce...or Isabelle has to die. And neither of us is a murderer."

Matthew's eyes widdened as the door slammed in his face.

Amelie sighed, "Do you think Matthew will grant a divorce?"

Mary looked at him apologetically, "Sorry sir...she's not easily tameable...That's why her uncle was so quick to be rid of her...Please show me where I can get the stuff for her bath."
