It Takes a Special Kind of Woman (Army Fic)

Christina smiled as her new husband walked in the door. "Hey handsome."

Her and Pete had just moved to Fort Shafter, Hawaii. They had just gotten married two weeks ago. They had been planning to wait a little, until Christina finished her masters but then 8 months after his deployment Pete was reassigned to Hawaii, so their plans changed. So they got married a little earlier than expected. Both were extremely happy with the decision but it was a big change for Chris from student life in New York City. Either way, they had each other and made everything perfect.

"Wow you unpacked so much." Pete said after giving her a kiss. "Any luck if any of the colleges on the island have a program for you?"

"Didn't get a chance to look." Chris said as she put her head on his chest.

"Let's look tonight." He smiled. It was important to Pete that he didn't derail her plans.

Next door Clay was beaming as he got out of his car. He'd never get used to how great it was to now come home to his wife and little boy.

Chris smiled, "Our next door neighbors, the Surrats, invited us over tonight. I thought it would be a good idea. I really like Cierra and the baby."

Pete nodded, "Well, that sounds good. What time?"

Clay walked inside to smell freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and his father-in-law shouting a greeting at him.

"Hey! Where's Cie and CJ?" Clay asked with a smile.

"I just put that rowdy grandson of mine in the bath. I just came out here to grab a towel. Cie is in the kitchen. She's preparing the crap to prepare dinner. Your neighbor's are coming over in a few hours for dinner. I'm taking CJ tonight since Cie has to work in the morning. Give you kids some alone time. Plus Pappy misses his baby!"

Clay nodded, "Well thanks Tommy!"

"Seven." Chris smiled, "Oh and your mom called earlier."

"Oh I'll call her back." Pete said.

"She said you didn't have to." Christina laughed.

"She loves you more!"

"Hey there darling." Clay went into the counter and kissed his wife.

The time passed quickly for both couples. Tommy left with CJ and Cie and Clay had a fewminutes together.

"I love you so much. I don't even know what I did to deserve you." Clay said as he helf her close. She giggled and kissed him.

"Almost time!" Pete reminded his wife as he walked into the bedroom.

After the kiss she held his face close and whispered, "I love you too."

"Two seconds." She called. Chris brushed a piece of hair from her face, grabbed her purse, and gave her husband a kiss. "All ready." She smiled.

Clay pushed her against the wall and ran his hands down her body. He still couldn't believe she was here.

"What?" She asked as he stared at her.

"Babe....I just love you. And I can't believe everything you've done for me."

The knock sounded at the door so the couple went to answer it.

The girls smiled and greeted each other and introduced the husbands. Then everyone headed to the kitchen.

"How many years you in?" Clay asked Pete as he handed him a beer.

"This is my eighth." Pete nodded, "You?"

"Sixth." Clay said with a slight smile. He nodded towards the deck and the men headed outside. They knew how important it would be for the girls to be friends.

Cie looked at Chris, "So...what do you like to do in your spare time?"

They men sipped their beers and traded army stories, becoming fast friends.

Chris smiled, "Yoga, hiking, I like to be outside. I need to find a place to finish my degree here too. What about you?"

Cie shrugged, "I am a police officer. So is my dad, brother and grandpa. So when I have free time, I like to spend time with CJ, anything outdoors, bake and swim."

Chris smiled, "How do you like living on base?"

"I have only lived on base for a few weekd. But I like it. Clay has lived in this house for a year because he had CJ. And I have been CJ's mom since he was two months old but I just adopted him."

"Aw how sweet. I guess we're both the new girls." Chris smiled.

"How long have you and Pete been married?" Cierra asked.

"Just two weeks. We've been together just over two years though, you know always do the military long distance thing." She explained.

"That's around the time Clay and I married." Cierra smiled, "that is pretty cool!"

"It is!" Chris smiled, "Meet any of the other wives on post?"

"I know a few of them from all of my visits. But I don't think highly of many. Just a few. I'll introduce you soon."

"Yeah..Pete's friends back on the east coast, a few had cool girlfriend's or wives but they're not usually my cup of tea either." Chris said.

"Most don't like us girls having our own lives outside the army." Cie smiled, she understood.

"Exactly."

" I see us getting along fantastically!" Cierra smiled.

"Me too!" She smiled, "Should get the guys back in here?"

Cierra shrugged, Lor we can take food out there."

"It's so nice out." Chris smiled as she helped her gather the food.

"This is one of the fun bases.so I'm glad we are here together." Cierra laughed.

"Me too. Yeah, can't complain about Hawaii." She said as they walked outside. "Dinnertime boys." They placed food on the outdoor table.

Clay and Pete smiled as they joined their wives.

After dinner the men helped clean. Pete yawned slightly as he dried a dish, "PT kicked my ass today."

"Your unit do a 10 miler?" Clay asked. Pete nodded. "Fuck mine too. I'm exhausted."
