Jar of Hearts

Alex pulled into the hospital parking lot. He got out and silently made his way to the 6th floor. The orderlies buzzed him in and he walked in.

"Mr. Skarsgard. This way please." A nurse said as she walked up to him. She was trying not to stare at him in awe. He got that a lot. He nodded at her.

When they entered Sheridan's room, his frown deepened. The beautiful dancer he had known was pencil thin. Her eyes were sunk in.

"Alex..." She whispered. He nodded and held his arms open. She walked to him and melted in him. It brought tears to her eyes that he could feel every single bone in her body.

"You're coming with me." He said softly. After Sheridan had tried to kill herself, her Swedish parents had begged Alexander to try to "cure" her of whatever was wrong with her. Alex and Sheridan had been best friends until their schedules had both gotten so busy.

Four hours later....

Sheridan smiled when Alexander opened her bedroom door.

"I'll leave you alone. I'll see you at dinner."

"Thank you, Alexander." She said softly.

Karina sighed and took a deep breath as she finished her leap series.

"AGAIN!" Sasha said loudly, "You're weak on the fifth leap."

"Sasha! We've been doing this since 6am. I'm done." She snapped. Sasha was the director of the new production, she was his prima ballerina. He was tough and passionate. She hated him for pushing her so hard, but she loved him for it as well.

"Again." He said sternly with no emotion. Karina glared at him but repeated her leap series.

Alexander prepared the dinner and then collected her.

"No improvement!" He snapped.

"Dinner time." He smiled slightly, "It's healthy. I promise."

If looks could kill, then Sasha would have been dead.

"I need to eat something and sleep a little." Karina snapped. He had been practicing with her for going on thirteen hours, with only a short break from some lunch and rest.

"You need to work harder!" Sasha said simply.

Luckily by now her back was turned to him as she collected her things, she was done for the day. Whether he said so or not. She bite her lip and said through gritted teeth, "Sasha. We're done here for the day."

Sheridan smiled at him, "You must be so ashamed of me." Alex shook his head.

"Aldrig, min älskade*." He said as he pulled her close, "Ri, we lost track of each other. But I'm here. I'll protect you always now. I'm sorry I strayed so far away."

Sheri nodded, a single tear falling from her eye, "I'm sorry."

He gently wiped away her tear, "No no.."

Karina put her things down and turned around. "Yes?"

"First, I dismiss you. Don't forget who made you the star of this show." Sasha started, "Second, let's just practice the lift once more and then you can go."

"Jur pe dumnezeu, Sasha..." Karina mumbled.

"Odată." He smiled slightly. She glared at him but took her place to do her leap into a lift. Sasha would stand in for the male lead.

Karina took a deep breath and focused. She did a perfect three leap series into a perfect lift. Sasha's expert arms lifted her with ease. But she felt heavy, weighed down.

He actually smiled when he put her down, "Perfecțiune!"

Karina shook her head, "No. I'm too heavy. I need to be smaller."

He had prepared baked fish, brown rice and a big salad. She realized she was famished.

He looked at her, slightly angry, "No. You are perfect."

Alex handed her a plate with food and she smiled at him, "I've missed you."

"If I was just a few pounds lighter, the whole series would flow be-"

Sasha cut her off, "No. Karina." She went to speak but he raised his hand to her slightly, "Sunt serios. Nu pierde nici o greutate!"

She rolled her eyes, "Yes, Sasha."

"Come." He waved, "Let's get something to eat. We have a little business to discuss anyway."

She smiled, "I've missed you too. It's been so long." It had been seven years to be exact. He had seen her at her second big performance.

He nodded, "I'll make it up to you."

Sheridan nodded and smiled, "I look forward to that."

They arrived at a small cafe.

Sasha took the liberty of ordering for both of them. When the waitress left Karina raised an eyebrow.

"Don't start with me. My show, I'm your nutritionist's boss anyway, I know what you should be eating. Anyway, here." Sasha handed her some sketches and photos, "Some of the design teams costume ideas."

They ate and then went on their walk.

She looked through them, making her own comments and ideas abou them.

"Are you tired?" Alex asked when they returned.

"I will tell them." Sasha nodded as they ate. He might work her hard, but she was still his prima. For the most part, she got what she wanted. "Finish your plate."

Alex nodded slowly, "Of course."

When they check came, Sasha grabbed it. Karina went to speak but he shook his head, "Don't." And she knew not to even bother arguing, she left him pay the bill.

"Training at 6am tomorrow." He said as they walked out to their cars.

"Seven." Karina pouted, "Vă rog!"

Sasha rolled his eyes, "Fine."

"Mulțumesc!" Karina smiled and kissed his cheek goodbye. The pair drove to their homes and got some much needed rest.

Alex woke with a start and realized Sheri wasn't in his arms. He jumped up and went searching. He found her in the kitchen, staring at a carton of eggs.

"I want to eat again..." She muttered when she saw him watching her, "I never want to dance again, ever."

Karina woke up, realizing she was slightly late.

Alex sighed, "You don't have to dance again, Sheridan. Ever."

"You're LATE!" Sasha snapped as she rushed into the studio.

"BUT I brought you coffee!" She flashed him a cheeky grin and held up two cups.

She shivered slightly, "Okay. I think I'm going back to bed."

He looked at her sadly and nodded, "Okay." After she left, he set about making breakfast.

Sasha glared, "That doesn't make it okay."

"It's your favorite!"

He sighed deeply. He was very happy to be with her to help, but he was mad at himself for been absent so long.

Sasha took the cup and sipped it, "Fifteen minutes until we start. You better not have been late because you stopped to pick this up."

Karina shook her head, "I overslept. I'm bloody tired, Sasha."

"få ett grepp." He muttered to himself before he whipped up a breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast.

Sasha looked at her, "Well, I'll give you a day off next week. Maybe."

He separated some for Sheridan for later and ate in silence, deep in thought.

Karina rolled her eyes.

His phone rang and he answered it. It was his mother. They talked for about a half hour. She told him several times not to feel bad about this.
